Fruit & Uses
Aronia berries are extremely nutritious and work especially well in smoothies, jams, syrups, baked goods, juice, and other recipes. Some people genuinely enjoy eating them fresh as well.
Growing Information
Viking Aronia grows well in full sun to part shade and is hardy in USDA Zones 3–7. It is adaptable, resilient, and suitable for both edible landscapes and more traditional plantings.
Plant Size & Shipping
These are naturally grown, field-grown plants from our nursery in Michigan. Plants are approximately 24–36 inches or taller at shipping, although each plant will vary slightly in height and branching.
Each plant is dug while dormant and prepared for shipment during the fall or spring. Unsold plants remain growing in the field until the next dormant shipping window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need more than one plant?
No. Viking Aronia is self-fertile, so a single plant will produce fruit.
When will my plant ship?
Bare-root plants are shipped while dormant during the fall and spring shipping seasons. This is the safest and healthiest time to transplant them.
When will I get fruit?
You can expect plants to begin producing fruit the 2nd year after planting, with yields increasing as the plants mature.
Will birds eat the berries?
In our experience, birds usually leave aronia berries alone, which is one of the reasons it’s one of our favorite berry crops to grow. Like any fruit, local bird pressure can vary, but we’ve found aronia to be one of the most reliable crops for actually making it to harvest.
